The first cup of morning coffee continues to be an enjoyable moment for me.
This morning, I sleepily arranged a cup, cone, and filter and proceeded to pour boiling water into the cone. Coffee overflowed all over the counter top. “That’s strange.” I commented to myself.
I removed the cone, pored enough out to add the warmed milk. With anticipation I brought the steaming cup to my lips, taking a swallow, only to rush to the sink and spit it out! “That is worst cup of coffee I have ever made in my life, I chided.”
Okay, so what happened? More about that in a minute.
I fixed another cup, while reminiscing of all the changes, I have made in making my cup of morning coffee.
I started as a teen drinking coffee with two heaping spoonfuls of sugar, milk and always accompanied by a donut or sugar pastries. That was my so-called breakfast. UGH!
After maturing and understanding what sugar does to our bodies, I nixed the pastry and switch to artificial sweetener, Sweet and Low. Not the best choice, I know.
I then graduated to enjoy the muffin craze (still sugar!). Next, after learning more about how our bodies really need a solid breakfast to start the day, I nixed having only a muffin with coffee. I started my mornings by having protein and eating a solid breakfast. By the way, that is when I started to shed the pounds…go figure.
Last year, I found Stevia in the Raw and changed from the Sweet n Low. I also made the switch to organic coffee and organic milk.
Many years ago, when I was complaining about what a waste making a pot of coffee, (as I only drink one or two cups) to a bachelor co-worker, he suggested switching to a coffee cone filter that he always used. That system sure has worked out and continues to be great for my lifestyle.
So why did this particular morning’s cup of coffee become labeled “the worst”?
Well, I need to be more awake when fixing my coffee. It seems because it was a cold morning when I got up, I had put some hot tap water in the cup to warm it. My house can get really cold with no heat running during the night. Thus, cups inside the cupboard get cold being it is on an outside wall. It seems that I forgot that the water was still in it and everything got diluted. Since I use local fresh spring water. The tap water was a shock to my taste buds.
