Another major storm hit the Oregon Coast the past few days. Wind gusts of over 75 mph pounded, violently shook trees, homes and such. Around, 75,000 people lost power.
Today I took the day off from my regular scheduled duties, stretched out with a hot cup of coffee, and observed the storm from safely inside. I watched how the trees bend gracefully in dance/rhythm with Mother Nature’s fury.
And, I am always enthralled when I can spy a seagull that is doing its thing. By that, I mean, how it will hover in midair until a wind gust (I surmise) engulfs its body. It then rides the wind as a surfer glides on a wave. The wind pushes its perfect areodynamite-designed body backward, up and down. The seagull ultimately surrenders and seems to float backward, upward and sideways.
Is this equivalent to sheer enjoyment and having fun perhaps like the surfer riding a wave? I wonder. It sure seems so. Because then as the seagull runs out of wind power, it will race upward to catch another. This scene is pretty awesome to observe, it lasts as long as the seagull can catch the wind.
Many weather events are taking place these days all over the country, well worldwide really. Wherever you might be when reading this and whatever chaos may be taking place around you, consider taking some fun time. You may find that despite whatever is currently happening that you just might be able to have fun and relax, and ultimately give yourself a break.
I take lessons from my dog in the arena called: “having fun”. Dogs basically are party animals. They are always ready to play, walk, eat, or catch a toy. Zen shows me that you can always choose to do what you love in a heartbeat. Even a seagull knows this to be true!
Blessings and a very Happy New Year!
