“A real decision is measured by the fact that you have taken a new action. If there’s no action, you have not truly decided.”
I needed to make a trip to the next town. It is a large town and I do most of my shopping there. It’s the big city, so to speak, at least in my world these days.
So, unlike dressing casually that I do for my usual day, which is filled with daily chores and such, I like to “dress up” when visiting and shopping.
I decided to get my attire ready the night before for an early morning departure. The earlier I can arrive at the store the less traffic and crowds.
As I laid out my outfit of dress slacks, sweater, jacket and pulled my nice, black leather dressy boots from the shelf. I glanced over and saw my work/hiking boots lying on the floor. They had been shed earlier and lay waiting for the next day. Part of me thought to wear them instead because they would be so comfortable, as the dressy boots can begin to pinch after a few hours.
Nevertheless, I silently asked myself, “What are you thinking? Wear those boots with a dressy outfit. Surely it would definitely not be a properly coordinated, fashion fit! I mean how could I even think to wear work boots with a nice outfit. Duh!
And the internal debate continued.
But, do I want to look good and “proper” wearing the dress boots OR, do I want to feel good by wearing sheer comfort? With the task of shopping you need to at least be comfortable, I reasoned.
I became self-aware that to even have this internal debate and decision to make was ludicrous, when there is starvation, disease and pain the world. How vain and trivial.
A few realities kicked in:
a). Um, Sandra, are there “Fashion Police” that positioned themselves in stores whose sole purpose would be to spot an old broad who is wearing combat boots in dress clothing attire?
b). Or, is there a reality TV show where someone pulls you to one side and tells you that the boots have to go, now? Come to think of it, yes I do believe there was one of those shows on television at one time.
c). Who cares?
The next morning I scurried around making breakfast and getting dressed. When it came time to put on those nice, dressy black leather boots I hesitated. The internal debate began all over again. Come on Sandra, just make a decision! It’s getting late and you need to be going. “Okay! I wear the work/hiking boots!”
I have been on a roll about making decisions in my life. Decisions that suit only me.
First, there was the wearing of the boots and next is that my blog will change. Not really a major change, it just isn’t going to be called a blog any more.
When I was working at the local newspaper as reporter, etc, I also wrote a weekly column. It covered just about everything that happens in my life that can help me grow, change and view things in a positive vain.
So, from now on, the blog is being called, “Sandra’s Life 101” column. So there~
