Okay, here is a mystery that shook me up.
Zen and I were out walking on our trail in the forest the other day.
I wanted to head back and said to Zen, “okay let’s go home,” he turned and ran in front of me.
And then I heard four very loud noises like foot stomping behind us nearby in the forest. It was like no sound I had ever heard before. It was loud… just four times. I quickly turned to see what was coming. Nothing.
I rationalized, “okay, maybe someone is cutting wood? No, it sounds too soft for that. Perhaps someone is pounding on something? No, it’s too loud and there aren’t any houses that are as that close as the sound.
So, I am standing very still, well okay: FROZEN in place! Because at this point I went to total fear. I looked over at Zen, who IMMEDIATELY picked up that I was afraid. He went on alert and looked around as if to say, “Okay, where is the danger here?”
I decided to leave, collected myself to quicken my step and walked out. All the time, I kept looking behind us, as if something would emerge from the forest any moment.
Now, many have responded to my question of what could it have been as: “A bear, elk?” No, not a bear because a bear running would not have that kind of a really heavy sound. Yes, perhaps an elk, since it could weight close to 1,000 pounds. Perhaps.
The only thing that “fits” that sound would be much like that of a giant walking (No, have never encountered one. LOL) I have heard of people who have also heard this type of sound and they encountered, shortly thereafter, seeing a Bigfoot.
Yes, I know you are thinking I have probably gone off the deep end. However, I will point out another mystery about that forest.
In the almost eight years I have walked there, I have never seen a bird fly over nor any critters scamping about. Isn’t that strange? It is dead quiet and there is no activity other than the sound of your footsteps. Although, I have seen deer hoof tracks in mud from time to time. It is as if this place is off limits. Why?
So, will I continue to walk there? Yep. Just did that today with Marge who joined Zen and myself. No more strange sounds were heard.
Whatever it was, it has been a very long time since I have felt such an overwhelming fear.
There is comfort to see how Zen responded to my fear and went into a protective mode. And although he probably would not be able to fend off a large critter whatever it might be, he would, I know without a doubt, put up one hell of a fight.
Who knows how he would act and, I’d rather not know, thank you.
Stay safe in your world huh.
