It is time to say good-bye to many things these days: possessions, people and memories, for myself and even Zen.
Case in point: “Brownie” has been Zen’s basketball play-toy all his life. As you can see from the photo, it has been mauled, chewed, thrown about, drugged through mud, snow, rain and such.
It has always been there for him to share in his day of fun and play. However, Brownie was falling apart so it was time to let it go. I actually felt sad, as I placed it in the garbage can and said goodbye to something that has been part of our lives for so many years. How well it served its purpose!
Zen currently has another Brownie to replace the old Brownie that I found at a garage sale.
His response to accepting the new one was amazing and certainly a life lesson for me.
Zen knew the old one well, he could find it no matter where it wound up from the previous day: in bushes, crevices or buried in a weed patch. However, he took to the new one with no rejection involved. Perhaps this is why dogs are so in the flow and totally in the present moment because the new one was welcomed, and totally accepted...no problem. Dogs Rock!
