My dear friend and neighbor, Pudge passed away yesterday. She was a force to be reckoned with and has enriched my life beyond description. She was pretty much housebound and despite many health challenges, coped with her situation with grace and tenacity that most of us haven’t a clue.
A couple of years ago, after she read my book, she kidded me about a character in the book that is named “Pudgie” and how did I know her then? OMG! I did not make the connection obviously until that moment. Talk about being dense that I had given a character her name.
We laughed at the coincidence (there are none) of how twenty some years earlier that I would write a book and name a character with her unusual nickname, and then move right next door to her! Whoa, what cosmic humor is that all about? I love how the Universe sets it all up for our journeys to interconnect on course.
Pudge's birth name was Marianne and she would have been 81 on September 13, a week to the day before my birthday on the 20th. Another connection we had: both Virgo.
Yesterday I asked her sister, of how she got the nickname Pudge. She shared that when Pudge was born the doctor commented, “Oh what a Pudgy baby!” And that stuck with her for the rest of her life. Somewhere along the way, it was changed to Pudge.
In the book, the character “Pudgie” is loved and missed and now my friend is gone from my life and oh, how I miss her. Our time together was on a soul connection. She offered such kindness and uplifting moments in the times we spent together. I am so grateful to have known and loved a phenomenal woman named Pudge.
