“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.”
About thirty years ago or so, I was handed a book that started me on the path of inner reflection and the observation of my life.
I was going through a messy divorce, climbing the corporate ladder, and basically didn’t have a clue of my inner world of thought. My life was full of negative events, one after another.
And then…I was invited by a friend and co-worker to have lunch at her house. After visiting for a while and basically “dumping on her” with my tale of woe, she left the room.
She returned with book in hand. A small, red leather edition of “As a Man Thinketh” written by James Allen. She said it was a gift and it could help me sort “it” all out.
I devoured and consumed the book in one sitting. Until that point in my life, I had not even heard of the concept of how our inner world of thinking can and does affect our reality.
The book has been re-read countless times reminding me of the option: I do not have to continue my negative thought patterns! These are thought patterns that were learned in a negative environment during my childhood. And, I had just kept repeating the internal programming/dialogue year after year. It had simply become a habit.
It has taken many years for me to unlearn and know that I can reap lovely events, when I continue to issue positive, life affirming, loving thoughts to others and myself.
Yes, it is that simple, however it takes discipline in self-correcting and to catch myself every time, when I am thinking the “old way”.
It is a New Year and with it comes new possibilities. They arrive when we set the stage of knowing we can and do influence our world by either negative or with positive thinking.
I wish a New Year full of love and healing for one and all.
